Due to digital cameras shooting photoshas never been as easy as now. But, there's quite a difference between capturing a photo that is a honest representation of a subject and creating something that is interesting. A couple of effortless pointers in the areas of composition, lighting or correct exposure will enable you to perfect your photographs rapidly, easily and sometimes even dramatically.
Don't forget that while trying to improve your pictures, do it in little bites. In the same way as the old adage states that you should eat an elephant. Simple steps to a an objective will get you there more rapidly and much easier than attempting to remember the whole lot at once and getting nowhere. A rational and systematic strategy will will let you work at every easy step, conqueror it and then proceed to the next. Don't forget though to judge along the way to see if you have learnt every step or if you want to revise.
Remember to take your time with each step and grasp it before moving on to the next. So here goes:
1. Each photo requires a point o focus
Without it the picture is dull and uninteresting and does nothing for the viewer. You need to get the viewer's attention and retain it, drawing their eye into the photo. Remember the subject is king. Without one is like a wedding missing a bride or a coronation without the queen.
2. Create a sense of depth in your photo through the use of a frame
For example, an opening within the wall of a broken down home, a window frame or a natural or man-made doorway. Take the photo through these objects focusing on a subject on the opposite side. Put a frame around the sides of your photograph that pulls the viewer into the photo.
3. If your photos are not good enough then you're probably not close enough to your focal point.
Get in closer. Use your feet first and then if that isn't achievable, make use of your zoom. The nearer you are to the subject the greater the effect of the image. We have a tendency to remain too far away from our subject thereby including too much pointless mess. If you want to remember individuals fill the photograph with them.
4. Before you push the shutter button search for clutter
While looking through the viewfinder examine the edges of your shot and see if there's anything unnecessary you want to exclude from the image. It might be simply removed by zooming just a little or walking in nearer or maybe you will want to alter your viewpoint or the angle. Find a way to eliminate the cluttered edges and your picture will improve a hundredfold.
5. A more dynamic photograph will be created by having diagonals running through the photograph.
